Project Overview
This project involved developing a website for a fast-casual restaurant specializing in healthy, delicious bowls, using the Square platform. My goal was to create an online website that effectively represented the brand and made it easy for customers to explore the menu and order online. I was responsible for web development, such as designing the pages, setting up the digital menu, implementing the online ordering and catering system, and optimizing the SEO. The goal is to create a seamless, user-friendly online order experience for customers.

Design Process

Problem Statement
My client, a restaurant with three locations in the Boston area specializing in healthy, fast, and delicious bowls, needed a website that would provide a seamless online ordering experience while effectively reflecting the brand’s identity. Their goal was to attract local customers seeking convenient, nutritious meals and to offer a user-friendly platform that showcased their menu, services, and unique dining experience. The challenge was creating an intuitive site to enhance the customer journey from discovery to ordering.
Functional Design
To emphasize the restaurant's brand identity, I designed a homepage featuring clear navigation, categorized menus, a featured menu section, and storefront showcases. Since the client valued social media marketing, I incorporated a dedicated section linking to their Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook accounts.

For the menu, I structured the page layout based on the client’s menu, organizing items by category and offering detailed customization options for each dish. Additionally, I set up the catering system, defining minimum order quantities and pricing to simplify the customer experience.
SEO Optimization
To improve the restaurant's visibility online, I implemented several SEO strategies. I optimized the website’s metadata, including title tags, meta descriptions, and alt texts for images, ensuring that search engines could easily index the site. I also integrated local SEO practices by incorporating location-specific keywords, which helped the restaurant rank higher in searches for healthy dining options in the Boston area. These efforts contributed to increased website traffic and better search engine rankings.

Reflections

This project provided me with valuable insights into building an effective restaurant website, particularly in the fast-paced dining industry. Through this experience, I enhanced my skills in creating intuitive user interfaces that balance aesthetics with functionality, such as streamlined online ordering systems and catering services. I also gained deeper knowledge in optimizing SEO for local businesses, improving search engine rankings and driving traffic.
